VIDEO: John Key backstage from Campbell Live

John appeared on Campbell Live in a special half-hour interview with host John Campbell on Monday, 28 May. Like some other TV3 content, that programme was also streamed live to the internet and is archived in three segments on the TV3 website, beginning here. In this video, John talks about the interview prior to going on and we get a glimpse of the opening of the show from inside the control room.

Good interview John but thought Mr. Campbell attempted to cover too many topics! I like the way you talked in headlines.(Even one word replies - great stuff!) I recently saw you interviewed somewhere and I thought you gave too many details in your responses. I'm not sure many people listen closely to anything other than the headlines. Well done!

Pleased for you. Hope you'll oust this terrible , insincere govt. Agree with Garth George's sentiments in Thursday's Herald. Apalled at Helen Clark vote hunting at this sad time for the family of the dead mother, at the hands of Mercury energy. Disappointed that you're willing the Greens to join your new govt,, if successful. Have noted Peter Dunne and Winston Peters stance and words. Like to be on the winning side, it would seem. Even ordinary NZs, nominal christians but particularly, real christians take a dim view of Margaret Wilson removing the most important name in the prayer. Jonathan Hunt did not meddle with it. But the prime minister intermeddling with the church. The church and the state are separate. There are 3 Persons in the Godhead, God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ ) God the Holy Spirit. When we pray to God He only hears us if we ask or make our requests known, using the name of Jesus Christ. Maybe she could thee and thou. if she wants as some thiink they're archaic but I think they're reverent. When praying we're addressing a reverent Being. If elected I hope you'll get rid of Sue Bradford's terrible bill which you associated yourself with, do not tamper with the prayer in parliament or the lovely NZ national anthem. Better than the Australin one! Hope Kiwis do not forget how this government ill- treats the working middle class. Hope your government will remember the poor retirees in the future. Don't be fooled about all the Muslims flooding the country. Islam's aim is to take over the whole of the West. Remember our founding fathers and the legacy they left us. Many think Helen Clark went to Manger Bridge to get Pacific votes , since losing T.P. Field. Many of us long for a change , to keep us from sliding further away from democratic rule! yours sincerely Flora Campbell

Campbell is mixing politics and religion together, and as a member of a christian faith that is not the way to go as I see religion mixed with politics over seas creates havick.

Hi John, I thought you came across really well on Campbell Live, you have a fresh and invigorating attitude that combined with some interesting ideas on how to take NZ forward with real clear and straightforward thinking.

"Islam's aim is to take over the whole of the West."?? Flora B Campbell... are you sincere as to this comment? I think personally before you make such unguided, uneducated comments you should at least have evidence to back up your case. The extreme terrorists that are attempting to target the west are those definatley within the minority of the millions of muslims around that world. I personally am not religious, in fact I would go so far to claim to be an atheist however it is your statements that actually exacerbate the problem. I would like to draw your attention to a quote from "Peace is the Basic Spirit in Islam" by Giasuddin Ahmed The Qur'an declares (2:213): "Mankind is one single nation." The Holy Prophet's life was a symbol of love and nonviolence. He was the first among all to protect others' rights. This is a principle that we can all adhere to I believe I like to believe that New Zealand is a country of tolerance, acceptance and understanding and would not be proud to belong to a country that is not of these principles. In response to the rest of your comments about "prayer", one of the most tremendous steps forward for man kind was when religion was seperated from politics in 1648, and the signing of the Treaty of Westphalia, M(r)s Campbell, I am shocked and appalled that there is someone of your political viewpoint within this country. On a side note, Congratulations John!, enjoying your work however not to sure about the privitisation of the prison system, with the current problems within NZ prisions, one would like to think that the state should be in control so that when problems like corruption arise it is easier for the people to restrain their power. For a private entity to control it requires legal authorisation and investigation which may take weeks and months to come into effect. Just because the Labour government has made a muck of the Prison system, this does not mean we should outsource to someone else to solve the problem. Yours Sincerely. Timothy Armitage

Good interview. When you were allowed to speak! It was irritating to hear you being continually interrupted! Made one wonder just who was being interviewed! I'll go along with everything you say. We're getting so worn down and depressed by Helen Clark! We need a National government more than anything. And please let us keep our national anthem and Christianity. Our country's changed SO much for the worse in the last few years!

I appreciated your comments, but you weren't given much time, and you were constantly interrupted by an interviewer who gabbles. It is important that you don't copy him, trying to get your responses in before the next interruption. You need to control the interview and resist the temptation to speak as he does, in particular to resist unreasonable interruption. Much as I hate to say it, Helen Clark does this quite well! Blair, you got it absolutely right. John needed to interrupt Campbell with words to the effect '... stop, let me finish my answer to your last question ..." and did I imagine that Campbell was seated in a higher chair?

Pleased to see the Gnats had a stand at the Auckland Small Business Expo last week. Funny thing, you know - I didn't see Claek or Cullen anywhere near the place.

I too was pleased to see the National Party at the Auckland Small Business Expo. May I suggest that the Nats show themselves more in this way, even in strongholds? I have been stopped by various people with a clipboard inviting me to learn more about their particular political party. A suitably identifiable person armed with pamphlets or subscription forms might go along way to promoting the Nats and increasing membership.

I'm late in responding, but I thought it was a great interview. John Campbell waffles, but you gave short, sharp answers in rapid succession which gave me the impression that you were a confident leader who knew what he was talking about. People will want more detailed info from you and the Nats soon, but in this sort of interview it came across well.
