| 20 July. Radio Dunedin interview with Neil Collins. John calls in right after a visit to an export-dependent mussel factory in Blenheim and the talk naturally goes to the exchange rate. John again emphasises how important it is for Government to toe the line on expenditures if inflation is to be diminished as a threat, especially as the Labour Government gets ready for its usual big election year spendup. On the continuing health crisis, John urges some caution in handling the industrial action that is coming to dominate the sector, saying that some of what the Government has been pumping into the sector has obviously not gone where it is needed. The latest David Benson Pope problem then comes up for discussion and John outlines the issues and explains how detrimental Mr Pope's actions have been in undermining the political neutrality of the public service. |
