VIDEO: On the importance of free trade with the US
27 March 2007. John responds to questions about the importance of a free trade agreement with the US, something the Labour-led Government has been unable to progress in any meaningful way. He discusses the decisive role National has played in advancing the FTA agenda by convincing US leaders that New Zealand's anti-nuke position is an immutable part of the national identity, putting paid to the notion that this development is somehow the product of Labour diplomacy. |

VIDEO: John Key on the '20 hours free' ECE promise
| On Monday, 26 March, National Education Spokeswoman, Katherine Rich, and I visited a pre-school in my electorate, the Royal Road PreSchool. In this broadcast I talk about the Government's failed promise to deliver 20 free hours of pre-school for all New Zealand children aged three and four. Made in the heat of the election campaign, the promise has turned out to be a fraud perpetrated on New Zealand parents. For more on this issue, see the education policy pages on the main National Party website - and in particular, this press release by Katherine Rich. National MP Paula Bennett is the Associate Spokeswoman for Early Childhood Education and has a useful collection of statements on this issue, as well. Click here for those and click here to watch Paula discuss this on our YouTube channel. Looking forward to your comments! . |

NEWS: Clark tries to deflect from trade failure
Helen Clark's attack on National shows she is desperate to deflect attention from her failure to advance a free trade agreement with the US despite having more than seven years to do so, says National Party Leader John Key.
"When she arrives home after meeting George W Bush, Helen Clark will have the T-shirt but no FTA.
"I raised the issue of the lack of progress in the trade agenda with the US both before and during her visit, and I would do so again in a flash if it meant advancing New Zealand's interests.
"The convention she cites does not exist.
"If there was a convention, then Helen Clark would have been in breach of it a number of times while in Opposition (see attached Labour Party press releases).
"It just shows the arrogance of Helen Clark that she thinks New Zealand and herself are the same thing.
"Helen Clark has failed to deliver on an FTA and she does have to take responsibility for that.
"She may want to silence the parents of New Zealand by railroading the anti-smacking bill through Parliament under urgency next week, but she won't be silencing me."
