How would National propose to tackle the exchange rate in the short-term. The main problem seems to be the high interest rates - so would National consider cutting rates at all as opposed to say tax cuts ? On another note - with a dwindling surplus in the Govt Coffers - how do you propose to pay for all this ?

I continue to wonder if we are ever going to be given the truth about the National Party's attitude to the current great swindle being forced upon the world. I have asked John Key on 5 occasions now about the attitude on the Carbon Tax fiasco. The idea of forcing this idiotic nonsense on the people of NZ is nothing more than absolute fraudulent use of peoples trust. To accept the lies and misinformation given to the world by Al Gore and his cronies is criminal, and to perpetuate the misguided facts that WE ARE CAUSING GLOBAL WARMING when Europe is experiencing the coldest winter on record and outstanding weather scientists are discrediting the scare tactics of the 'Warmies' is nothing short of criminal. If the National party, which I have supported all my life , perpetuate this myth then there will be a considerable surge in NZ Politics such as was seen when Bob Jones stepped into the arena. When will someone in the party have the guts to comment on this subject instead of playing around with all the usual 'he said, they said' rhetoric that is trotted out at every election. Have you forgotten the fact that sensible people very often have the last laugh.? Ron Hopkinson

Gidday John, good to see you on facebook I heard you speaking at the Northland Field days, I was about 3ft to your right, it was good to hear. I work for the Northland Polytechnic's Hort/Ag dept, you were talking about our rural sector retaining a competetive advantage while abiding to global ecological law.We have 54 community sites accross the North and is one of the few depts actually growing. I've not been a national supporter but may support you. I do a course called sustainable rural development..I do the business side of it..we go to places in the Hokianga, resources are channeled to starting enterprises. Its a good way to foster communities..it's still early days but its productive. With many of the settlements the overheads for Maori are nill the land is vast..it's a gleering competetive advantage that could aid the market in times to come a lot..this work is in accordance with honouring the treaty. It works. Now there are problems in these communities, the biggest one I find is Marijuana..this is because it is illegal and basically effects fortune..however I think though this may be the case and as we have all fallen short of the mark at somepoint, I would like very much to continue this work because it is right. I would support you and your party if this was your cause. My big only critism of the left is that it's not right enough..anyway I see capital markets coming down and that integrity mattering an awful lot. Best Regards Gawain

John, National needs to focus closely on the matter of insufficient funding of R&D in this country (see article: Top brains warn of NZ research 'catastrophe' - http://www.nzherald.co.nz/ section/1/story.cfm? c_id=1&objectid=10495988). This a clear message to Government that our competitiveness and ability to accelerate economic growth hinges on adequate research investment. The proposed Emissions Trading Scheme will serve to undermine our national energy cost competitiveness, further weakening our long term economic viability. I'm looking forward to a National Government that underdstands the drivers for growth and prosperity. Keep up the great work!
