SPECIAL: John Key statement on Roger Douglas and Act (audio)

Earlier this week I said I was not going to run a Government with a radical right wing agenda. I intend to run a moderate, pragmatic Government that will serve the interests of all New Zealanders.

Today Roger Douglas outlined policies which do not fit with the agenda of a moderate, pragmatic Government I hope to lead.

Post-election, if National is in a position to put together a government, we will only work with parties that can work with our moderate, pragmatic agenda.

I am not going to campaign to New Zealanders on one agenda, and sell them out after the election on a radical right wing agenda.

National is not saying it cannot work on some issues with Act where we have agreement - like tax -but National is not going to sign up to the policy prescription outlined today by Sir Roger.

I am a Chartered Accountant. For Tax cuts, I suggest the following: 0$120,000

Hello, It would be good if you could specify what ACT policies you don't like and why exactly. I also don't think "radical right wing" is a fair or accurate description of the ACT party. They do not and never have suggested "stuff the poor people" policies, which is what most people will interpret from your effective description of them. I see ACT as more of a 'freedom' party.

Chinese free trade agreememt. Dont do it.This a pack with the devil It will result in social unrest in same way as Tonga. It will create resentment among the working class. We should be concentrating on freetrade agreements with our allies Japan, korea USA all democracies malcolm

Hi John, National has to push the two blue ticks and goven alone. Otherwise we will have the tail wagging the dog as we have now. Two blue ticks! Chris

Rather than tax cuts why not GST cuts on food items, milk, and food groceries. this would be more benificial to low-income, families and the elderly. the GST could be removed from all food outlets (or it could be retained on the so called "bad foods" ie soft drinks, fatty fast foods)
