VIDEO: VJ 34 on the EFA and the FTA

09 April. John begins by talking about the response he's getting to his video series as he travels around New Zealand and encourages viewers to sign up on Facebook, where they can join the growing supporters network.  He then moves onto recent developments around the Electoral Finance Act, noting that the Labour Party, which rammed the draconian legislation through, has become the first to violate it.  There's more to come on this issue, so stay tuned. Finally, he discusses the Free Trade Agreement with China, emphasising and explaining National's support for the initiative even as he makes it clear that the FTA alone is not enough to secure the economy's prosperity.

I do not support your reported support for Winstone Peters as Minister or in any other position in a future government.

I would withdraw my support for National if they even contemplate to do any deals with Winston Peters! He is the most manipulating politician of all times, cannot be trusted execpt for his owm ego. National would in my opnion be making the biggest mistake towards a better NZ if they would deal with Peters.

I agree with Ewen Castle and will be going one step further by not voting for National if it continues to pursue any proposal to have Winstone Peters associated with it in any manner whatsoever.

I can't believe that National would even consider Winston Peters as Foreign Minister in the next Government, now was your chance to stand up and have a point of difference to Labour with the FTA by saying Winston should be fired, but instead National seems to be endorsing him so they get his support in the election. What ever happen to standing up for what is right, this is just a sad reflection of NZ politics and I would have expected better from John Key and the National Party

I am reasonably sure now that we will have a NZ GOVT NAT 2008, but I see a close call at the end. Economic downturn now, sees New Zealanders searching for meaning and we must remember that Helengrand has presided over a bubble which is now deflating. Citizens of New Zealand please realise that we have lost enormous ground. When my father worked in NZ we had a NZ dollar that equalled $1.50 USA. We were not just equal people we were ahead of them all. The road back to our prosperity where our wage rate is high and our credentials are high will not be easy. We can do it, but we will have not with this outdated socialist model. Strength to us all. Please vote for a realistic Government in NZ. Soon on this column I will deal with Winston, and where he can fit in. Paul Scott

Its great for you to support the FTA with China John but in your own electorate ex Chinese nationals who are only recently in NZ and only associate with their own people are buying small local businesses and putting their own people in to staff them at low pay rates putting the existing kiwi staff out of work if they don't agree with the new casual contracts that they are being offerred. this should be stopped and they should not be allowed to own, work in or control and land or bussiness based in NZ. Winston peters has some good ideas when it comes to this and maybe you should be taking on some of these. look after NZers first, asians later. We dont need 1800 more of them working here we already have way to many and that includes the one that represents you party as well.

I believeit will be a grave mistake to have free trade with the Chinese Government when there are many other economies we could strengthen ties with. for eg. South America.Canada. One day China will make big demands on our environment in exchange for their participation of our economy. They will want something back. My thoughts will be NZ land, for their people, as that is something they lack. They have a future worry of supplying enough sustainable food crops and water for the local population of China. I read this in a Hong Kong newspaper over 10years ago. It makes sense as China is becoming increasingly prosperous and with this food demands are greater. English will become a minority language such as the Tibetan experience as the sheer numbers of Chinese people will dictate the language needs for future business. Is that what we want ? And it will happen !

Dear John, I also have reservations similiar to Vicki, and also add my concerns as to the amount of goods flooding into our country - because Chinese is cheaper., and we have a trade deal which could inhibit other countries from trading from us. If we "need" to import from China, let us at least follow Germany's ruling, of importing of a very high quality, and having the safe means of disposing of goods being past their use. Anthea Brown

To Mr Key....Well, you've got my vote! I am so delighted to hear your response to Labours childish attacks on you today! You responded exactly how I have been waiting for someone to respond! It totally does my head in hearing the rediculous attacks politicians verbally spew over each other ("diddums" just shows Helen lacks any eloquence...she is not even funny in her remarks!!). What a breath of fresh air to hear you not engage/lower yourself to their standards and instead report (very accurately, I might add) about what we - the public - are really concerned with. If we wanted to hear BS like the Labour Party so regularily spouts, we'd hangout in a High School! Parliment is not the time or place! Good on you, more power to you! My respect and my impression of you and what you stand for has just gone through the roof! Keep up the great work and you won't be needing LUCK, come election time!! Kind regards, Rachel Jennings PS: For someone who has made so many mistakes an can't even look good on a billboard with a MASSIVE amount of airbrushing and makeup...Helen should really learn not to be the one "throwing stones!!"

To John Key, John I met you at your state of the nation speech at the Novotel in Ellerslie in January. At the time I privately asked you why you bothered mentioning Helen Clark in your speech, and why you put her down slightly. Why stoop to her low level I asked. I think you took note of what I said, but replied 'that's politics'. I'm guessing you're not type of guy who will stoop to their level...but I have some advice, like everyone I'm sure. When you responded today in Parliament to the childishness, I loved what you said, but felt you could have gone further. If Labor eats away at your 'tough-ness' over the next few months I think you should show the NZ public what a strong leader you are and are likely to be. If you had added to your comments today something like this: ...and no member of my party, from this day on, will stoop as low as to respond to any personal attacks. Although this might be a bit hard to police (and some members might let you down and stoop low), this type of stance and reply would show that you have power over your party. If the NZ public sees this, they'll get the sense you'll be able to run a tight ship. Bottom line, they'll have more respect for you, and this is what you need in bucketfulls. Hope this helps, I want you running the country, we need more innovation, less welfare, more balls, more tough decisions, a charismatic leader.
