John, love your policies - working for a benefit - about time. You have our vote

Assuming solo mums don't work is a bit sad to me. My Brother-in-law is on the benefit, he is currently doing his pre-trade for building for which he is not being paid. If these things go in place, he won't be able to complete his pre-trade and he won't be able to get an apprenticeship. Is he lazy? No! Is he a bludger? No! Can he afford his son's school uniform? No! Is this fair? No!

John, After years of being a (Maori) Labour supporter I was initially interested in your new face. You came across as a person who was willing to learn new ropes - such as learning about how things tick for Maori - as well as applying the ones you already have in the pocket (through your life experiences). Now, after National has gone public with its policies on beneficiaries, I've changed my mind. It's so hoha, John i.e. it's old hat to deflect attention from the real problems our countries face by focusing on the lazy little "breeders" the poor old taxpayer is supporting. For goodness sake, use your brains. Work ethics are a skill, not a virtue. Kids need to be taught it. Penalizing parents on the Domestic Purposes Benefit -regardless of how and why they have ended up on it, penalizes the children - the very same children who are going to end up perpetuating the cycle of unemployment and neglible work ethics. We will just get more of the same further down the line. Not only that, but people who are already lacking in general education, people who already suffer from social maladjustment and people who are born into families who suffer from generational body, soul and mind deprivations, are not going to budge an inch. They'll take the penalties and then wait in queues for other handouts. We need to help their kids escape a similar life path. Put money and policies into educational initiatives that do just that. Instead of penalties, create policies that reward participation in education schemes. If you're on a benefit and you attend and pass certain education diplomas - in Philosophy, Basic Maths, English and Science, Literature, languages - whatever, then you'll get some kind of financial assistance. Life will get better for your kids. Create steps towards being better educated. Incentives are far more effective for creating change than punitive strategies. Anyone with half a brain knows that. So, I'm disappointed, John. Thought you might have done better. This whole thing about changing the welfare system is an old bandwagon for National. It's either a political diversionary tactic (to take people's eyes off something else that you don't want them to see), or it's a betrayal of a real and frightening dearth of understanding our society's problems. i.e it's proof of ignorance. It has put me off. Isabel

Fancy not vetting a comment in which one of your avid supporters refers to a child as being a "toe rag". Who is vetting your comments? I'm sure some newspaper would be keen to quote from that comment - seeing as how you haven't vetted it and don't find it offensive. I do. No kid deserves to be called a "toe rag".

I've wanted to vote for National for years. It has proved difficult when so little is presented on National's policies, and now the proven failure of selling our assets has been shown to be still on the cards. Labour clearly stands for something. That feels safer, even if I disagree with some of what they propose. At least I know where the country will be headed. Please John Key, leave ACC and the Kiwi Bank alone. They are working brillantly! Regards, Jessica

Hi John, Hope all is going well on the Campaign trail? Your team has my vote. I wonder if you have any have any plans with Trade Agreement in China ? I Own a small business manufacturing Lounge Furniture and we also do an amount of Commercial Booth Seating Fitouts. We employee 6 staff and turn over approx 1.2 mill used to be just under 2 mill until down turn in the economy 2.5 years ago, when some bright Govt spark stood up and told NZ stop spending money because of oversea's deficit, what he should have said was stop spending money on imported goods, things have never been the same since. We sell direct to Public and designers because of the quality of our Furniture. The Focus of our business is NZ Made and we only use NZ Tasman leather we only survive by making quality, custom sizing and thankfully there is still a lot of NZ'ders who want to support NZ Manufacturers. Over the years under the Labour reign I have seen numerous well known NZ Manufacturers shut their doors because it is too hard out there mainly because the Chinese imports are heavily subsidised by the Chinese Govt. Like a lot of other manufacturing there is no NZ Standard for Furniture any body can import anything. There are very few apprentiships, very few qualified Upholstery workers craftsmen, most that are left in the industry are what we call staple gun hands. My lease is up for renewal on our building and I am in deliberation wether it is viable to carry on a unlevel playing field any longer. These Business's used to be the Backbone of our country, now the only Business in NZ that is relatively safe is a Plumbing . Electrical, Building or Mechanical or Politics or Religion. Maybe you should talk to NZ Manufacturers and try to put some confidence back into the Manufacturing in New Zealand? . The majoriity of Manufacturing Business's in NZ are hurting big time Manufacturing employs alot of employees who have very little skills other than factory work without these jobs unemployment figures are sure to rise. I loath going to the Supermarket shopping trying to fing items that are NZ Made, looking for Country of Origin because so many NZ Companies have shifted manufacturing to China and try to disguse where they are manufactured - have to look at the small print. Have these goods come down in price - no not when you consider the difference in the cost in manufacturing. Instead of maybe focusing of geting people on the DPB back to work straight away, maybe we need to first ensure there is going to be job security first? PS When you get your feet under the table maybe you can also change the retirement senario for Politicians. It makes me mad to find the likes of Nango Tanges can retire after his second term of Office on full pension, what has this guy done apart from try to legalise Marajuarna, let alone the rest of the Green Party.
