News: Nats underline law & order plans with latest billboard

National Party Leader John Key says National's commitment to getting tough on crime is highlighted in its latest billboard, launched today in Christchurch.

"Law and order is a major area of focus for National this election campaign.  It is one of the core issues that matter to New Zealanders.

"Labour has had nine years to sort out our criminal justice issues, and has very little to show for it.  New Zealanders are sick of seeing headline after headline on a succession of violent crimes.

"It is not good enough that many people feel unsafe on the streets, let alone in their own homes.  I am determined that the next National Government will improve the safety and security in our communities.

"National intends to crack down on criminal gangs and their insidious 'P' trade, which is causing so much harm to our society.

"National will also be strengthening bail, sentencing, and parole laws as a priority, and giving police greater powers to do their job.

"We have already released detailed policies on youth justice, criminal gangs, and help for the victims of crime.  We will release further policies in this area in the run-up to the election.

"The billboard I am launching today underscores our commitment to getting on and improving the safety and security of our communities.

"National has now unveiled six billboards on issues that it believes matter to New Zealand – immigration and tax, education, putting more into frontline public services, and infrastructure.

"National intends to be resolutely focused on what matters right through the election campaign."

The Maori Party needs to be struck from parliment they have publically admitted to supporting a gangs application to exist under the treaty of waitangi? come on is every maori in NZ that dumb I don't think so Peter Sharples has shown democratic ignorance. I live in a town plagued with street violence such as every other town in NZ dont give these scumbags another inch of intimidation to use against the alone hard working individuals who help to provide this country with services that build strong communities they don't need a gang identity they have a kiwi identity this is enough for any man. heads need to roll lets start with Peter Sharples.

LAW & ORDER. .. is the number one issue for this election. Lets not forget the Kahui twins and other senseless acts of violence. Please realise that we have to get tough on criminals. Life sentence for manufacturing/dealing drugs. Life sentence for murder and child violence. Prisoners must work to earn their food. NZ has too much crime. Get tough and stamp it out. ZERO TOLERANCE

It is all good to have a student loan rebate system for doctor ,nurses and mid wives but it can only be fair if all kiwis that are working in the field they trained in with assistance from student loans also receive a form of rebate over the same period of time. Or is it the same old national way. Feed the people earning a good income at the expense of the kiwi work force on the average wage . take from the not so wealthy to assist the higher income bracket??. i wonder??

Offering debt write off's for doctors, nurses and mid wifes is great but what about other health professionals (Physiotherapists, podiatrist, occupational therapists and so forth). As a student myself the oppourtunities are far better overseas. And even with the interest write off on student loans currently available, it is far wiser to work overseas and pay off the loan interest included as many of my class mates would agree.
