National Party Leader John Key is saddened at the death today of former New Zealand First MP Brian Donnelly.

"Brian's death will be mourned by many, many people including his former Parliamentary colleagues from across the political spectrum. That is testament to the man that Brian was.

"He will be remembered for his genuine warmth and tolerance, for the tremendous contribution he made to his country before he entered politics, and for his invaluable contribution as an MP over 12 years.

"Despite his tenure being cut short by his illness, Brian was also an excellent High Commissioner to the Cook Islands.

"My thoughts are with his wife Linda and his family. Brian will be greatly missed."
