This is such a good idea. Congratulations guys. Can't wait to see how this goes.

#2 - Rose 2007-03-23 14:31 - (Reply)

Impressive, look forward to seeing it 'go live' and the communication it will generate

#3 - Kelly 2007-03-23 14:55 - (Reply)

Finally an online forum that allows people to take part in the debate about the country's direction. Can't wait for more policy information to be available in the future, and feedback from John. I wll be watching with interest!

Website video journal & opportunity to input to discussions - absolutely brilliant! Now, if we could just get unlimited broadband nationwide - SIGH! Seriously though, I am a 62 year old church minister on the edge of Central Otago, and I am significantly disturbed by the increasingly rail-roading tactics the present govt seems to be employing. How can they consider putting under urgency such a contentious issue as Sue Bradford's bill? We need above all time to consider this away from the pressures of urgency. Anyway - well done John - keep up the good work. Regards, Peter

Peter, How true, a party vote on an issue, that involves personal opinion. Sue Bradford has admitted she was surprised that it passed the first stage. This tells us she had introduced the bill, to *"be seen to be doing something".* I believe that any good politician leaves his ego at the door, and the the election promises book close at hand. Something that Helen has forgotten, it would appear.

The video journal is an excellent idea.. but we need better Internet connections out here in the countryside! Maybe you could have a lower resolution (smaller pic) option as well? And yes, keep up the good work :) Regards, Ken.

An excellent idea but even with our broadband connection the stream is sporadic. Maybe its about time Telecom spent some money to replace the copper with glass fibre. Regards, Rod

As a jewish New Zealander, I am very interested to know how (or if) you intend to 'mend' bridges broken with Israel - indeed what is your stance on Israel and the Palestinian issue?

Can't see or hear these vids? Try http://youtube.com/nationalparty If that doesn't work, let us know

I'm really impressed with the mix of modern web technology used here to connect with voters. Will a John Key and/or National Party del.icio.us account be established? In terms of connecting with the yet-to-be and younger voters, has a John Key and/or National MySpace been considered?

the video is a great idea, but even with broadband I still can't get a continuous flow - it stops and starts frequently.

#11.1 - John Cooper 2007-03-24 09:10 - (Reply)

Great to have a good communication portal so we can see your view prior to any media bias. However very frustrating to try to view your Video Journal which continues to stop, buffer then restart numerous times. I am on the Xtra Broadband Adventure plan which is the best I can buy, but it is extremely unreliable. Telecom has crippled NZ by prioritising short term profits over long term international competitiveness. NZ is now paying the price and will continue to do so for the next few years. I look forward to new policies that "encourage" our critical providers such as Telecom to firstly invest in the future of the nation, and secondly accept that a fair return to their shareholders over the long term is more appropriate than screwing us for short term profits. "Vision" for the future is what we need across NZ.

This is a great idea! We see your effort in reaching out to us and we appreciate it very much. I hope that you will hear the voices from the nation and continue to build up and strengthen this country.

#13 - Ralph Maher 2007-03-24 07:06 - (Reply)

At long last something that may reach those under 40's that we need to get on board. Well done I say!

#14 - Neville Fursdon 2007-03-24 08:28 - (Reply)

Great reception out here in the country, so the technology works here. You could have a choice of resolution for those with poorer connections. We see the political leaders on TV but seldom the other MPs, and this is an opportunity to learn about the other talent you have. Whatever is textile formatting?

Great idea. Will definately tune in for more. Keep up the good work . You are revitalising the national Party.

#16 - Adolf Fiinkensein 2007-03-24 09:53 - (Reply)

I'm very pleased to see this development which by-passes the left leaning Antique Media Filters with which we have been plagued for years (see comment from retired Fairfax chief Hilmer) Yes, please let us see some of the other talent within National as well. Above all else, get the Cancerous Corrosive Cow out of power as fast as you can. If that means moving a little toward the centre then I'm all for it. You can't achieve anything by being the smartest opposition leader in history.

Dear John Your new Video is Brilliant! I too am concerned about the anti- smacking bill. It will make decent parents criminals. Can I bring one item to your attention. My husband and I are hard working Kiwi's in our early 60's. We are concerned about the cost of living. Inflation is 3% so the Government says, but our bills are coming out at 15%. Will you keep a check on prices when you will make Prime Minister. Yours Elaine Cradock.

#18 - Neil 2007-03-24 17:06 - (Reply)

Well done, a use of technology to address the feelings of a good number of New Zealanders that we are being disenfranchised by our politicians. Every day we see things happening in our great country that have a huge impact on our lives, and the only avenue available to the average Kiwi for making a statement seems to be shouting at the TV or throwing the Newspaper in the bin - and we are all aware do how much good that does. We need easy access to our politicians to let them know of our wants and needs, otherwise how are they able to fulfil their job description as 'Public Servants', a job description which I suspect many choose to ignore. I will watch with interest the evolvement of this site.

#19 - Jerry Savage 2007-03-24 17:25 - (Reply)

Elucidating & brilliant! Great idea John. What the country needs in these times is good governence & not preoccupation with such legislation as child spanking.

This site is great! Keep up the good work. The video takes a while to load, but then, considering I am in the U.S., 2 minutes wait is not unreasonable. Looking forward to future updates!

#20 - Jamie K 2007-03-24 20:35 - (Reply)

John, Just wondering how you came up with the "*Join the conversation*" slogan? Isn't that the same as Hillary Clinton's campaign slogan? Couldn't something more original be found? It did make me wonder about your credibility when I noticed it on the banner of this website. Just a suggestion..

#21 - Brendan 2007-03-25 12:14 - (Reply)

A great use of web technologies to deliver policy and engage with voters. Thanks for creating this space.

#22 - Jeremy 2007-03-25 14:00 - (Reply)

Good idea. I notice that a number of politicans make statements that you and other politicians have said x when the reality is that you have not. It is difficult sometimes to identify what you and your colleagues have said and have not said because of such obfuscation. Also for those of us with little time the message sometimes gets lost in the volume of information that seems to get released. Is it possible for you to get published accurately in newspapers and the like weekly soundbites of what you have actually said over the course of a week?

I'm grateful for the overwhelming response to the new website and the video journal. I am very keen to communicate directly with people through videos and this website, I hope you'll continue to visit the site and I'll be posting another video this week.

One thing I would suggest is to put standardised audio-narration link on each article (probably top-left of the page) as an extra option to the text; and I'm refering to all the National parties online articles. Maybe it's just me, but I find it so much more relaxing to not have to squint at the screen and instead just look out the window with my coffee and listen - a bit like radio news. I don't think the moving video is all that important - most people would rather just have a smooth audio, maybe? Regards, Andrew Atkin

A good attempt to develop a blog and hopefully it will be about the real issues concerning New Zealanders. Make sure that issues are addressed, and not catered to in a condasending manner, or else your brand will be tarnished, as I find that the larger percentage of NZ politicians are more interested in keeping the status quo than actually making a change. Per head of population, we must be one of the most beauracratically governed countries in the western world. As a born and bred kiwi, sometimes I am ashamed to be living here, we need a change, and we need leadership.

Excellent idea. You are a breath of fresh air, John Key. You have created a good place for frustrated Kiwis to put forward ideas. I hope they will help with the formation of sane policy to take this country forward in a better way than we are experiencing at the moment. Please: A referendum on Maori Seats A referendum on MMP kindest regards Ernie thompson

Hi John Great idea saved the website to my favorites. Live in muriwai (Hellensville electorate)Just wondering would you like me to get the signage ready for outside yer office in kumeu "John Key PM instead" of "MP". You are doing a great job bringing some straight forward talking instead of all the Bull @#$%#@ that this goverment is delivering. You have got my vote !!!

Hi, can't open the video clip here north of Auckland, but great idea creating the opportunity for the gen public to contribute their thoughts and ideas. This may get clogged up and very difficult to actually be of use though. Suggest you look at the way the www.fishing.net website is set up. LOTS of input on that site and very user friendly, from both ends I would say. Anyway, I found this site, while searching the net for a National Party webite to have my say about Sue (Bloody) Bradford, she just takes the cake! Hope when her equal pay bill is debated, National can see that the value the more mature worker brings to an employer with experience and life skills is not discriminated against. Both the worker and the employer stand to lose out and of course, that will complete the inevitable circle to spiral the cost of living to society. Youth workers, just do not have the value, in every situation, they are higher risk.

Prior to you taking office, you/your team, agreed with us on a new form of personal protection and stated that you would have it removed from the 'Offensive Weapons' list. There is also the recent events surrounding employment and business within NZ that you, and especially ASB, where these subjects are trying to be boosted. Why then has no-one returned our correspondence regarding this matter to enable us to grow our business, employ from the community and further the NZ economy. We appreciate that you have only been in office a short time and that there will be many things for you to assimilate and sort out, we await your consideration, thank you.
