NEWS: Key welcomes United Future's support

National Party Leader John Key has welcomed a pledge of post-election support from United Future Leader Hon Peter Dunne.

"National does anticipate that it will need support from other parties to form the next government, and it would welcome United Future's support.

"We see United Future as a natural support party for National. In fact, it is a preferred 'cab off the rank'.

"National and United Future share similar views in a number of important areas of policy.  We have no doubt that a stable and forward-looking support or coalition agreement could be reached after the election.

"Mr Dunne and I have talked today and previously about the kinds of policy areas we can work on together – in the areas of infrastructure, health, and law and order.

"Mr Dunne has served New Zealand as a Minister in both National and Labour led governments, and I respect his experience and the contribution he has made thus far.  I look forward to Peter serving as a Minister in the next National-led government.

"That next Government will face some serious economic challenges.  National has been responding to those challenges, with a thoughtful, practical programme, that will offer security to the most vulnerable through the tough times, and put this country back on a path for growth.

"Once the New Zealand public has cast their votes, we hope to be in a position to sit down with United Future, and perhaps other parties, for further discussions."

The latest polls give some anxietyto all National supporters though I believe the eventual poll will show a much more resounding result. It is pretty rich Labour attempting to hood wink the NewZealand public that Labour is the party to " trust ". Surely so much more could be made of Labour's quite untrustworthy record over the years. Even right down to things like Helen Clark puting her name to paintings and all the inept ministers in and out of cabinet. Also the clinging on to Winston Peters ( Winston who ? ) etc etc. I think there is a real mod for change in the country that the media hasn't fully picked up on or fully taken into account. For the last 20 odd years Labour has been on the treasury benches for fifteen of them. At age 66 I most certainly don't wish to be shackled by a further 15 years of Labour. Most right thinking New Zealanders want and need the opportunity to run their own lives. The last thing we need is more ofAunty Helen and her mob. Patrick Miller.
