Opening of Parliament

Prime Minister John Key today said Parliament will open in the week starting 8 December.

Mr Key says the Commission Opening of Parliament is being planned for Monday, 8 December. This is when the new MPs will be sworn in and the Parliament chooses a new Speaker.

"The following day will be the Speech from The Throne and the beginning of the Address-in-Reply debate.

"National's intention is to pass its tax legislation before Christmas.

"The tax programme is a central part of the economic plan National campaigned on in the run-up to the election.

"National also campaigned on other polices that, in some cases, will require legislation. More details of the Government's legislative programme in the upcoming session of Parliament will be released in coming days."

My family and I just wish to Congratulate you all for the recent campaign result. All the best Honourable, John Keys and your Party. As an ex-patriate returning home after spending 4yrs in Amman, JORDAN with my family, two members of which will be new immigrants to Aotearoa. We now look forward, to positive changes and hoping the new government will do all it can, for the people. Looking to re-settle in Wellington and hoping to relocate & establish a niche within the Business Sector, I envisage the move will be prosperous for not only my family but also open door opportunities for my fellow citizens. GO KIWI'S, Down but Never Out!!!
