Press Conference - National Standards

02 February. John Key and Education Minister Anne Tolley present the National Standards policy to the media after it has been approved in Caucus and take questions from the press.

I think it's great that the Government are taking charge and doing something about the poor teaching practices in this country, although I think we should still focus on years 9-13 too. This current PC agenda is ridiculous. People should stop thinking this is an attack on teachers and support this policy - My Dad's a teacher (although he's secondary) and his students do extremely well and like him because he puts in effort, communicates with parents and doesn't take rubbish from trouble making students. Many other teachers just don't put effort into their students like he, and a lot of other teachers do. As a future teacher myself, I'm supporting it, although I can understand that with the lack of power teachers have these days it's not always the teacher's fault if the student's work is suffering. It's kind of like how America thinks Obama's at fault for the lack of change in the US when it's actually the opposition stopping him from passing any bills.
