I am so disappointed in this whole smacking thing and in you John for embracing it through amending the Bradford bill. Democracy has not prevailed, because the people tried to let you leaders know what we really wanted (over 80% of us), and that was, no change to the present law, but you leaders are not listening. The issue of children dying in this country has nothing to do with present law on the treatment of children, but everything to do with alcohol and drug abuse, economic status, education, role models, belief systems and world view. Simon Barnett had it right! Society requires building up, not systematic distruction as has been the case over the last thirty odd years by the Sue Bradfords and Helen Clarkes of this world with their feminist assaults against families, of which this bill is a prime example. Confusion reigns

John, Bad mistake. Helen Clarke won that one, you let her off the hook. Sorry you lost the opportunity to hammer Labour on that one. Don't let any more get away. Cheers, Craig.

Actually I think John won overall. He made the prime minister cave in to what National wanted to achieve. At that moment in time, he was more powerful than Helen Clark. Good parents will no longer be criminalised, but if John hadn't done that, then the bill would have likely been passed, and a terrible thing would have happened.
